Hunter Kaczorowski

Costumes 

Hunter S. Kaczorowski, though primarily working as a Brooklyn-based costume designer, is also a performer, illustrator and graphic designer. He received his B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College 2007 where he graduated with an emphasis on costume design, puppetry and dance. For two years he was the resident costume designer for the Vital Children’s Theater where he most notably costumed A (Tooth) Fairy Tale, which subsequently transferred to the Soho Playhouse; and The Klezmer Nutcracker, for which he also designed and built puppets.

In 2008, Hunter designed costumes for the acclaimed production of Like You Like It at the Gallery Players, for which he has been nominated for a 2009 New York Innovative Theater Award for Outstanding Costume Design. In the summer of 2009, Hunter was the resident costume designer for the Millbrook Playhouse, costuming eight productions, including, among others: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Noises Off, High School Musical, and Once Upon a Mattress.


As a puppeteer, Hunter has designed and built puppets for several productions and performed at St. Ann’s Warehouse and Here Arts Center as well as several times at his alma mater. Most recently, he production designed an adaptation of Malamud’s The Jewbird, for which he also designed and constructed a fully-articulated bird puppet (“an appropriately scruffy puppet designed by Hunter Kaczorowski...so far, so good” – The New York Times).

In the Great Small Works 8th International Toy Theater Festival he remounted his 2007 puppet piece “Duncan: Part One, or, the boy with a bird in his heart” about the life of the great post-impressionist painter Duncan Grant (“Compelling…a potent vignette” – The Wall Street Journal).

This year, Hunter performed in and costumed Michael Bodel’s “Sonnambula” as part of the 2008 Puppet Lab at St. Ann’s and for CultureMart at Here Arts Center. He has also assisted Dan Hurlin with puppet construction on the most recent Disfarmer, for which he also assisted costume designer Anna Thomford.
